Adding Character and Charm to Any Environment through Handmade Tile
Welcome to Crestview Nurseries, one of the largest family-owned retail nurseries in Northwest Florida. Over the years, we have grown from one greenhouse to over 20 greenhouses and 10 acres. Our extensive knowledge about the plants and growing conditions conducive to NW Florida is unmatched. We began with selling potted azaleas in the 1960s, and today, we offer a vast variety of perennials, flowering shrubs and trees, container annuals, and a diverse selection of glazed and terra cotta pottery. Our family's dedication to quality and customer satisfaction has been the cornerstone of our success.
Tommy and Jeanette Horne founded Crestview Nurseries with a shared passion for horticulture. Tommy, with his degree in Horticulture from the University of Florida, brought a wealth of knowledge to the business. Their children, Dusty, Gene, and Bebe, have all been involved in the nursery at various times, ensuring a family-centric approach to customer service and plant care. Our customers appreciate the personalized attention and the opportunity to stroll through our nursery, where they can discover new plants and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Planting Instructions
For optimal results, follow these steps when planting your new acquisition:
1. Dig a hole twice the diameter of the root-ball and deep enough to place the plant at its original growing depth.
2. Amend the soil from the hole with compost and peat moss to create a mix containing approximately 1/3 of each material.
3. Wet the soil thoroughly.
4. Gently remove the plant from its pot, taking care not to disturb the roots. For balled and burlapped plants, leave the burlap intact.
5. Score the root-ball vertically 4 or 5 times about 1" deep to loosen any circling roots.
6. Place the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root-ball is even with or slightly above the surrounding soil level.
7. Water the root-ball and surrounding soil to settle the soil and remove any air pockets.
8. Mulch 2" deep with bark or straw materials to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
9. Water frequently for the first 4-6 weeks and consider adding a root stimulator to the water to reduce rooting time and shock.
10. Fertilize with a slow release fertilizer after 4 weeks.
