Working together to make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to shaping a stronger, more resilient healthcare system in Virginia. Established in 1926 as a trade association solely representing Virginia hospitals, VHHA has evolved alongside the evolving landscape of healthcare. In 1995, recognizing the growing complexity and interconnectedness of the healthcare field, members voted to change the name from the Virginia Hospital Association to better reflect the organization's expanding scope.
VHHA now proudly represents 26 member health systems encompassing 111 community, psychiatric, rehabilitation, and specialty hospitals across Virginia. These health systems extend their reach beyond traditional hospital walls, encompassing a wide array of healthcare services including long-term care facilities, ambulatory care sites, home health services, insurance subsidiaries, and a host of other healthcare-related entities.
Our Mission and Vision
Driven by a deep commitment to the health and well-being of all Virginians, VHHA's mission is to collaborate with members and stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of Virginia's healthcare system. We strive to transform the delivery of care, making it more affordable, outcome-focused, and consumer-driven. Our overarching vision is to make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation.
Strategic Focus Areas
VHHA's efforts are concentrated around four key strategic areas:
1. Advocacy & Policy: VHHA is a dedicated voice for Virginia's healthcare providers, actively engaging with policymakers at the state and federal levels to advocate for policies, practices, and programs that support the long-term sustainability of the healthcare system.
2. Transforming Healthcare Delivery: We champion initiatives and strategies that reshape the delivery of healthcare to promote affordability, prioritize improved outcomes, and cultivate a more consumer-centric healthcare experience.
3. Public Health and Social Determinants: VHHA recognizes that health is inextricably linked to social factors and public health initiatives. We take a holistic approach, addressing these complex issues to ultimately improve the health of all Virginians.
4. Member-Focused Value Proposition: Continuously seeking to enhance the value we provide to our members, VHHA is committed to restructuring the organization to ensure agility and responsiveness to the evolving needs of the healthcare landscape.
