Elevate Your Brand with Salty Block Pictures

Open Sash is a company dedicated to providing energy-efficient, weatherized, and restored old windows. We specialize in turning beautiful, quality-made old windows into energy-efficient ones that are as effective as modern windows at a lower price than replacements. Our unique system involves adding glass to the existing sash, doubling the thermal resistance of the window without altering its appearance or function. With the addition of modern integrated weather seals, foam-insulated weight cavities, and restoration treatment, your old windows will not only look great but also function as well as a modern window.

Our retrofit system can be applied to any type of window, from historic to factory-modern, single or double-hung, casement or fixed. We custom-make energy panels to fit your specific needs. Not only is our window retrofit affordable, but it is also the most environmentally friendly, carbon neutral, and sustainable choice you can make.

Latest News

Open Sash is always working to improve and expand our services. Recently, we have started repairing and retrofitting modern windows too. For houses built in the 1970s and 1980s with casement windows featuring insulated glass, we can retrofit them cost-effectively. Removing and replacing these windows can be expensive due to the cost of the unit itself, disposal, and installation time. An Open Sash retrofit can be done for $250-$500, depending on the size and elements that need replacement. We add a frame to the exterior and a low-energy panel, giving the window new life and extending its lifespan by 15-20 years.

Additionally, Open Sash exhibited at the Waterbury LEAP Energy Fair, where our founder, Chris Pratt, demonstrated the Open Sash window retrofit system to attendees. This event allowed us to showcase our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability.

Our Team

Chris Pratt, the sole proprietor of Open Sash, has over 40 years of experience in construction, cabinetmaking, and furniture making. He spent three years specializing in window problems in Portland, Oregon, where he developed a solution to add glass to old windows. Since moving back to East Montpelier, Vermont, Chris has retrofitted hundreds of windows throughout the northeast and Washington, D.C. He has also created a mobile window wagon to work on-site, making the process of window retrofits even more cost-effective and convenient.

In the future, Chris believes that window wagons and energy retrofits will replace replacement windows, and the lost art of window repair and restoration will return with the improvements and cost-saving advantages of newer technology.
