A Brief History of Carteret Community Theatre

Carteret Community Theatre has been the heart of the local community's cultural scene since 1948. Our journey began with an amateur theatre group in Carteret County, which reorganized in November 1953 as the Carteret Community Theatre. We've produced a wide range of plays, including historical ones based on local figures like Emeline Pigott, the Confederate spy, Blackbeard, the pirate, and Otway Burns, privateer. Our early productions included everything from comedies to tragedies, one-acts to musicals. In recent years, musicals and children's shows have been incredibly popular with our audiences. Altogether, over the past 68 years, we have successfully mounted more than 200 major productions.

Our Mission and Commitment

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, our mission is to serve the cultural, artistic, and educational needs of the community through the production of theatrical and other forms of live entertainment. Our commitment to the community is unwavering, and we're dedicated to providing a platform for local talent to shine. We're proud to have co-sponsored residencies with the Missoula Children's Theatre since 1994, offering unique theatrical opportunities to local children. The establishment of the LeRae Kesel Fund has also enabled us to assist various programs aimed at helping county children in the theatre arts.

Our Services and Programs

We offer a variety of services and programs designed to cater to the diverse needs of our community. Our Summer Camps provide a fun and engaging environment for children to learn and grow. We also host several shows and events throughout the year, including the popular "SUNDAY FUNday" tickets, which can be purchased online. Our "First Act Youth" program is designed to develop the skills of young thespians, and we're always looking for volunteers to help us with our events and productions.
