Our story began in the 1860s when Rudolph Ballauf used the building as the first hardware store in the burgeoning riverport town. Our History

The Jefferson General Store is steeped in history, and our story is woven into the fabric of the town's rich heritage. The building where we reside today was built in the 1860s, and it has been a general store, hardware store, and hardware store at various times throughout its long history. The Ballauf family, who originally owned the store, played a significant role in the development of Jefferson. Rudolph Ballauf's daughters, Emma and her husband Eugene Meyer Senior, took over the store in the early 20th century, and it was during this period that the store became a staple in the community.
