Open Door Preschool

Open Door Preschool has been a cornerstone of the Northfield, Minnesota community since 1966, providing a nurturing and engaging environment for children aged 3-6 years old. Our experienced and dedicated staff, led by Director Marja Steinberg, are committed to fostering a love of learning and promoting the social, emotional, physical, and educational development of each child.

Our Philosophy

At Open Door Preschool, we recognize every child as an individual and strive to create a unique and creative environment that allows them to thrive. Our goal is to build positive self-images and enable each child to shine! We achieve this through a variety of play-based learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs of our students.

Services

We offer flexible enrollment options to fit the needs of busy families, including a standard day option from 9am to 11:30am. Our curriculum is designed to engage and stimulate young minds, with a focus on social, emotional, physical, and educational development. We also offer a range of resources and activities, including a summer camp program, parent handbook, snacks, birthday celebrations, and everyday diversity books.

Environmental Program

We are proud to partner with the Biology Department at St. Olaf College, providing our students with unique opportunities to explore and learn about the natural world. Our environmental program includes regular visits to the St. Olaf Prairie/wetlands, where children can observe seasonal changes and participate in interactive activities under the guidance of trained students from the Biology Department.

Scholarships

We are committed to providing a preschool experience to as many children as possible. We offer two types of scholarships: one through our Parent Aware certification, which allows for up to $7,500 to eligible families, and another through Open Door, which provides need-based scholarships to families who do not meet the Parent Aware eligibility criteria.
