Our Family Tradition

At Sammy's Pizza, we take pride in our long-standing family tradition that began more than 69 years ago. Our journey started with Sam Perrella, also known as Grandpa Sam, who saw the potential in the growing popularity of pizza in the United States after World War II. After visiting pizza makers in Chicago, Sam returned home with a new idea that eventually led to the opening of the first Sammy's Pizza restaurant in Hibbing, Minnesota in October 1954.

Since then, we've grown to 15 locations and have served over 25 million pizzas. We're now in our fourth generation of pizza makers, still using Sam's original recipes that have made us a beloved fixture in the community. Our dedication to quality and tradition has earned us recognition, including being inducted into the Pizza Hall of Fame by PMQ Pizza Magazine in 2015 and being voted 'Best Pizza in Minnesota' in Minnesota Monthly Magazine's Pizza Bracket Challenge in 2018.

Our Location

Sammy's Pizza & Deli was opened in 1958 by Jim and Marguerite (Perrella) Acheson, and it has remained in the family ever since. Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by Mike Acheson, who purchased the restaurant from his brother Jim Acheson Jr. (the son of the original owners) in 2019. Mike has been a key part of the success of Sammy's Cloquet over the past eight years and will be regularly present managing the daily operations at both locations moving forward.

Our Lakeside location is a testament to our commitment to serving high-quality pizzas and other delicious dishes to our community. We're open daily from 4 to 9 p.m., offering dine-in, takeout, and delivery services. Our menu features award-winning pizzas, pastas, appetizers, subs, calzones, broasted chicken, salads, and desserts, all made with fresh ingredients and love.
