According to the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), ponding water or standing water is defined as water remaining on a flat roof (or low sloped roof) 48 hours after a rainstorm, taking into account evaporation. For instance, TPO/PVC roof systems, when properly installed, are not affected by ponding water. Most TPO/PVC manufacturers do not exclude ponding water from their warranties. Modified and asphalt BUR roofs do not perform well in ponding water conditions, with most manufacturers excluding ponding from their warranties.
