At Wilkening Fireplace, we have been dedicated to warming homes since 1973. Our journey began with the invention of the "Wilkening Fireplace" by Albert Wilkening, who was frustrated with the inefficiency of his "Heatilator" fireplace. Being a steel fabricator, he decided to build a better model that used outside air to feed the fire, a masonry surround to store heat, and a circulation system that did not rely on fans. This venture was never intended to be a business, but the demand for his invention grew rapidly as neighbors and people from all over the state and country visited his home to see the fireplace in action.

In the early years, Albert and his wife Ruth operated the business from their home, with sales transactions taking place at the kitchen table. As the popularity of the "Wilkening Fireplace" increased, they needed a larger facility and purchased the current location in 1977. In 1979, Albert passed away, leaving the business to Ruth and two of his seven children, Don and Gary.

Don and Gary continued to promote the "Wilkening Fireplace" at regional and national shows, refining the product line by improving combustion technology. They designed a firebox with multiple air inlet ports, creating a carburetor-like effect that mixed super-heated outside air into the fire at the precise location to create a more efficient and clean burn.

Today, Wilkening Fireplace is still family-owned and operated, with a dedicated team of highly trained staff who are committed to educating customers on the options available for their homes. We have NFI-certified sales and installation crews who can assist with every step of the selection and installation process. Our showroom, located 4-1/2 miles North of Walker on Highway 371, features over 30 burning displays for customers to view and experience our products firsthand.
