Don's Driving School

For over 50 years, Don's Driving School has been dedicated to providing the best quality teaching experience, with a focus on helping students take their place safely and confidently on the streets and highways. Our mission is to empower students to become safe, competent drivers, instilling in them a sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with learning a valuable life skill. If you live in the Bismarck-Mandan area, a state-licensed instructor will pick you up at your home, school, or other established pick-up points in a dual-controlled driver training car. Out-of-town students can request pick-up and drop-off points once they arrive in Bismarck.

With over 81,000 training hours behind the wheel, we take pride in offering the finest and most comprehensive driver training available. Our diverse and experienced team of instructors caters to each student's unique learning style, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.

Meet Our Staff: Committed to Educating Drivers

*Don Prouty, Founder*

Don began pursuing the idea of starting a commercial driver's training school after entering the education profession in Bismarck and teaching driver's ed to young students. In 1970, Don and his wife, Bernie, opened Don's Driving School. Don spent almost 50 years as an educator and instructor, inspiring and shaping future drivers. He passed away on October 22, 2019, but his legacy lives on through the dedicated team at Don's Driving School.

*Danell Becker, Owner and Instructor*

Danell joined her parents at the driving school in 1981 and has served as the operating owner since 1999. Her passion for education and teaching led her to pursue a teaching career, and she has found incredible reward in helping students become safe and responsible drivers.

*Audrey Kroll, Instructor*

Audrey has been an instructor at Don's Driving School since 2010. She made a career change when she realized she wanted to make a positive difference in people's lives, and Don's Driving School has become the perfect platform for her to make a lasting impact on students' driving abilities and confidence.

*Pamela Ihmems, Instructor*

Pamela has been an instructor at Don's Driving School since 1995 and has been a physical education teacher in the Bismarck School system since 1982. Over her many years as an educator, Pamela has had the privilege of teaching her young students both health and safety. She takes pride in seeing the growth in students' driving skills and their confidence in decision-making.

Our Services: Tailored for a Lifetime of Safe Driving

Don's Driving School is proud to offer a comprehensive behind-the-wheel training program for teens and adults. Our expert instructors work one-on-one with students, developing their confidence in their abilities and decisions in traffic.

For teens, our 6-hour course fulfills North Dakota's requirement for licensing teens under 16. We offer courses tailored to older teens and adults, allowing for the flexibility to meet each student's individual needs. We have helped over 14,000 driving school graduates, and we look forward to helping you learn the skills required for a lifetime of safe driving.
