West-Whitehill Winery, established in 1981, has become a celebrated fixture in the Appalachian wine scene. Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Potomac Highlands in Moorefield, West Virginia, we cultivate and ferment grapes to craft exceptional wines. With a focus on unique dessert wines, we proudly uphold a tradition of quality and innovation.
A Legacy of Fine Wine
Our journey began with Steve West, who initially cultivated a few acres of grapes in the region's fertile soil. With a penchant for experimentation and a love for the craft, Steve developed and expanded our wine production over the years. Today, his daughter, Amanda West, carries on the family legacy, leading our dedicated team in vineyard and winery operations.
Crafting Bespoke Wines
Our vineyards flourish in the unique 'rain shadow' of the Potomac Highlands, receiving just the right amount of precipitation for optimal grape growth. We meticulously cultivate a variety of French-American hybrid varietals, known for their versatility and adaptation to our colder climate.
Among our most acclaimed offerings are our decadent dessert wines, meticulously crafted with unique blends of fruit, berries, and spices. These rich and complex wines are perfect for special occasions or as after-dinner treats. We also produce a range of dry and semi-dry whites and a distinctive Chambourcin red, each showcasing the unique character of the Grape.
Award-Winning Quality
West-Whitehill Winery has earned numerous accolades for our exceptional wines. Our talented winemaker, Tyler Wilkins, consistently produces vintages that impress judges at prestigious competitions, including the West Virginia Wine Competition.
