Serpent Ridge Vineyard is a boutique winery nestled in the picturesque hills of Carroll County, Maryland. This family-owned establishment specializes in small-batch, handcrafted wines made from grapes sourced from their vineyard, as well as select Maryland vineyards and other premium locations. The serene surroundings and breathtaking vineyard views provide a tranquil and memorable experience for guests, making it a hidden gem in Westminster, MD.

Our Story

With a combined 65 years of experience in technology, marketing, human resources, and a previous Navy career, the founders, Karen and Hal, decided to turn their passion for traveling to vineyards and enjoying wine into a reality. In 2013, they became the proud owners of Serpent Ridge Vineyard after being frequent visitors and volunteers for two years. Although they maintained their corporate careers at first, Hal furthered his education in vineyard management, and Karen obtained her winemaking certificate from Penn State. Now fully retired from the corporate world, they devote their time and energy to managing the vineyard and sharing their wines with guests.

The Art of Wine-Making

Serpent Ridge Vineyard practices flexible wine-making techniques tailored to the specific demands of the fruit, combining old-world methods with modern technology. Each vintage is carefully grown and vinified in small lots, followed by gentle aging in stainless steel, flex tanks, and American and French oak. The vineyard grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, and Chardonnel, and develops relationships with local grape growers to source additional high-quality fruit for their diverse wine selection. The result is a stunning array of wines that cater to various palates.

At Serpent Ridge Vineyard, guests are treated to wine flights, wine by the glass or bottle, and a variety of snacks, such as local cheeses, crackers, chocolates, sausage, honey, jellies, pretzels, and more. We invite you to visit our boutique tasting room and enjoy the picturesque vineyard views. Our staff is eager to share the story behind our award-winning wines and ensure your visit is comfortable and enjoyable.
