Over the Mountain Speech is dedicated to providing top-notch speech therapy and tutoring services that are not only affordable and convenient but also highly beneficial to children, families, and schools. Services Offered

At Over the Mountain Speech, we provide a comprehensive range of speech and language services, including:

• Speech/language Evaluations: Our comprehensive assessments include standardized testing, observation through interaction, and parent/teacher reports, if available. We evaluate articulation (speech sounds), language (comprehension and verbal expression), fluency (stuttering), and voice. This helps us identify areas of concern and develop a personalized plan for intervention.

• Speech/language Therapy: Our goal-directed intervention addresses problems with articulation, language, fluency, and voice. Our experienced therapists work closely with clients and their families to develop a customized treatment plan that meets their unique needs.

• Preschool Speech/language, Hearing, and Vision Screenings: We bring our screening services to you! Designed especially for children ages 3 and older, our screenings provide parents with information about their child's speech and language skills compared to other children the same age, as well as information about hearing and vision abilities.

• Tutoring: Our certified teachers provide specialized instruction in reading, math, and core subjects. We work closely with clients to identify areas of weakness and develop a personalized tutoring plan that meets their unique needs.

• Staff Development: We offer professional development for preschool teachers and child care professionals to address communication development in the preschool years. Our topics include language development, the language and reading connection, speech development, classroom management, signing with infants and toddlers, effective strategies for communicating with parents, and speech and language Q&A.

• Consultation Services: We offer professional assistance for parents and teachers in planning for the needs of children with communication delays. Our experienced therapists work closely with families and educators to develop a customized plan that meets the unique needs of the child.

Our Team

Jerri Smith, the founder of Over the Mountain Speech, received her B.S. and M.C.D in Communication Disorders from Auburn University. She has spent over 24 years working in a public school system, with additional experience in skilled nursing facilities, home health, and private practice. Jerri holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology and is licensed by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She and her husband, Phillip, have two daughters.
