Fast, Friendly, and Flexible Service
At Decatur Psychology, LLC, we understand that life can be filled with Challenges and uncertainties. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I, John R. Lucy, Ph. D., am committed to helping individuals find vitality, connection, vision, and greater meaning in their lives. With over two decades of experience in psychology and neuroscience, I draw upon the current and evolving knowledge base to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment for those seeking guidance.
Our Approach
My approach to counseling is collaborative and focused on helping individuals address their concerns, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and develop effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. I take a non-judgmental and encouraging stance as we work together to identify the internal and external self-reinforcing patterns that contribute to distress. My approach draws upon various therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Pragmatic Experiential Method, Constructivism/Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Existential Therapy, as well as Evolutionary Psychology and my own life experience.
When to Seek Counseling
Counseling can be beneficial at any time, whether you're experiencing emotional pain, struggling with low self-esteem, feeling limited by your own fears and worries, or seeking to expand or reflect on your life. However, if you're experiencing the following, counseling might be particularly helpful:
- Your feelings are affecting your sleep, eating, job, and relationships
- You feel trapped and as if there's nowhere to turn
- You're increasingly turning to alcohol, drugs, or other addictive behaviors
- You feel stuck in behaviors that hurt you in the long run
- Your worries and fears are significantly limiting what you feel comfortable doing in life
- You've tried to change, but things aren't getting better
- You're caught in unhealthy relationship patterns
