Supporting the Phoenix arts community, one exhibition at a time.
Modified Arts is a contemporary art gallery located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, that seeks to exhibit conceptually rigorous work. We strive to connect and cultivate regional, national, and international artists and collectors. Our monthly exhibitions feature a diverse range of media, including contemporary painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, multi-media, and installation. Since its inception in 1999, the gallery has been a respected venue for live music and performance, but its primary focus has always been on showcasing innovative and thought-provoking art.
History
Modified Arts was founded by Kimber Lanning in 1999. Over the years, the gallery has undergone several transitions, with notable directors including Kim Larkin and Adam Murray, who succeeded Lanning in 2010. In 2012, Jeff Chabot took over operations, bringing his experience from Los Angeles. After Chabot's departure, Lanning resumed directorial duties, and in 2016, Connor Descheemaker joined as a gallery assistant and co-curator. Miguel A. Monzon and Merryn Alaka later assumed the positions of director and curator, respectively. Currently, Kimber Lanning serves as the curator, and Melissa Koury has been directing the gallery since 2022, focusing on socially conscious curation and community engagement.
