Metropolitan Environmental

At The Metropolitan Environmental Trust (The M.e.t.), we are dedicated to promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability in the Greater Tulsa area. As a non-profit governmental trust, we strive to educate the public on the importance of recycling, composting, and proper waste management. Our mission is to reduce the solid waste stream and promote environmentally friendly practices in our community.

Our Services

We operate nine recycling centers in eight of our member communities, providing convenient drop-off locations for residents to recycle a variety of materials, including aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, newspapers, office paper, magazines, oil, antifreeze, phone books, and batteries. Our centers also provide hazardous waste disposal services, ensuring that harmful substances are handled and disposed of safely.

In addition to recycling, we offer composting services, educating the public on the benefits of composting and providing resources for individuals and businesses to start their own composting programs. Our education programs range from classroom resources to community events, promoting environmental awareness and encouraging responsible waste management practices.

Our Impact

Through our recycling and composting efforts, we have made a significant impact on the environment, diverting millions of pounds of waste from landfills each year. Our programs have also created jobs for people with disabilities, providing employment opportunities and promoting diversity in our community.

Our History

The M.e.t. was established in 1987 as a committee tasked with exploring alternatives to landfilling Tulsa's trash. After completing studies, we decided to begin recycling operations, opening our first recycling center in 1993. Today, we operate in cooperation with 12 member governments, providing vital services and education to the Greater Tulsa area.
