Our History
Our story began in 1914 when Orrin B. Hughes, maternal grandfather of Lawrin P. Crispe, started practicing law in Brattleboro. A notable achievement in his career was becoming the Chief Judge in the Vermont Superior Court. He served on the bench for 18 years before retiring in the 1950s. A. Luke Crispe, another prominent figure in our history, began practicing law in Brattleboro in 1934. He galvanized the law firm Crispe & Crispe as we know it today. Luke was a passionate and skilled trial lawyer who seldom lost. He was also instrumental in the founding of Stratton Mountain Resort in 1960 and actively involved in various community charities. Luke practiced law in Brattleboro for nearly 50 years before retiring in the early 1980s.
