Our story begins in 1918 when brothers Ed and Bill O'Brien opened a hot dog stand to serve travelers climbing Waverly Hill. In 1926 Ed O'Brien opened the O'Brien's Log Cabin Diner on Broad Street in Waverly, New York. The O'Brien's Restaurant was constructed in 1946, expanding our food service offerings. In 1964 we added a 24unit motel to provide overnight accommodations for guests. The bar and lounge were constructed in 1970, positioned between the restaurant and motel for guest convenience. Our dining room has been recognized as one of the most scenic in the nation, earning accolades in the publication Views to Dine By. A photograph taken by amateur photographer James B. Gilitz of Binghamton, New York, earned eighth place in an international contest of 8,400 images and was the sole U.S. entry in the top ten.Jerome E. Klein, author of Views to Dine By, described our view as Heaven on a Hilltop in Courier Magazine. The same publication highlighted our property as one of the architectural wonders of the world. Jackie Gleason praised our vista, noting it offers one of the most amazing views any time of year. Today, O'Brien's Inn is proudly owned by Jesse Streeter and managed by hospitality expert Scott Yeager.
