Riverzedge Arts

Riverzedge Arts is a vibrant and innovative organization dedicated to using art and design as powerful tools for social change and civic engagement among youth. Our mission is to provide the youth of northern RI with a path to economic and cultural sustainability through applied and work-based learning strategies.

Our History

Formed in 2002 by artists, youth development professionals, and community leaders, Riverzedge Arts was created in response to concerns about violence affecting underserved youth. We believe that art and design can empower and engage youth to build healthier, more sustainable communities. Today, our program enables youth to earn a wage while developing leadership skills, learning academic and professional skills, completing rigorous projects, and accessing human services.

Our Programs

Our programs are designed to empower youth to focus on future goals with an emphasis on diploma attainment or equivalent successful progress to the next step on their individual ladder to success. Throughout their high school years, teens can meet high expectations, develop positive workplace habits, and critical thinking practices. They also have access to college preparation, including application, FAFSA, and scholarship support, as well as referrals to social service partners.

Awards and Recognition

Riverzedge Arts has been recognized for our outstanding work in empowering youth through art and design. In November 2013, The Wallace Foundation cited us as one of 8 exemplary organizations nationwide in their research on out-of-school time arts programs for low-income urban teens. We were also awarded a President's Council on the Arts and the Humanities National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award in 2010 and a MetLife/Afterschool Alliance Afterschool Innovator Award in 2009. In 2020, we were profiled by the National Afterschool Alliance for our groundbreaking work helping youth attain academic credit through Expanded Learning Opportunities.

Services We Offer

At Riverzedge Arts, we offer a variety of services designed to engage and empower youth through art and design. These services include:

• Graphic Design Studio: Our Graphic Design Studio produces original logos and other creative designs for clients.
• Media Arts Studio: Our Media Arts Studio offers event and product photography and videography.
• Print Studio: The Print Studio designs and creates original apparel, stationery, and more.
• Public Art Studio: Our Public Art Studio creates custom installations for any space or venue.
