Our History

Established in 1902, Barger Construction has a rich history that spans over a century. Our journey began with three Barger brothers, Paul M., J.V., and C. Erastus, who were all natives of Rowan County. They started their business with one sawmill at Mt. Ulla and gradually built up a large and prosperous business. The principal office was established in Mooresville in 1909, and they began building homes in and around the area in 1923.

The company grew rapidly under the guidance of L. Young White, who became president and treasurer of the newly-formed Barger Construction Company in 1947. After his tragic death in 1968, M.A. Wicker took over as president but passed away in 1982 due to a lengthy illness. Ben L. Millsaps then became president and treasurer, operating the company until his death in 2008. In 2008, Gerald D. Brown became president and treasurer, and Paul Lindsey became Vice President.

Today, Barger Construction is primarily engaged in the construction of industrial plants, commercial and institutional buildings, schools, churches, hospitals, and shopping centers. We are also proud of our accomplishments in other architectural structures such as coliseums and stadiums. We have an annual volume of $7-9 million and operate in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia with an unlimited license.
