Our Story

The Mousetrap is a family-owned and operated specialty food, kitchen, and tabletop shop that has been serving the Lexington, KY area since 1976. Our story began with two sisters, Becky and Gay Davis, who opened the original store, "The Mousetrap, A Cheese Villa, " in 1976. The shop focused on cheese and custom-made gift baskets for special occasions. Over the years, the business went through various transformations, including a merge with John Kennan, who would later become the husband of Becky Davis. In 1977, JK, as he came to be known, took over the operations and ownership of the store. JK expanded the fine food selection, added kitchen and tabletop accessories, and perfected the pimento cheese recipe that has won the Reader's Choice award for several years.
