We treat our patients as we would family.

Nestled in the picturesque Green Mountains of Vermont, the Colonial House Inn & Motor Lodge offers a unique and unforgettable travel experience. Our property is a delightful fusion of the traditional and the modern, combining the cozy charm of a classic inn with the convenience and simplicity of a motor lodge.

Our inn-style rooms, located in the original cape house, boast a rich history that dates back to the founding of Vermont in 1791. These rooms offer a more traditional check-in experience, with our inn-keepers available 24/7 to ensure your stay is comfortable and hassle-free. Our motor-lodge rooms, constructed in the 1950s, offer a more modern and self-contained experience, with private entrances and contactless check-in for added privacy and peace of mind.

The Colonial House Inn & Motor Lodge is the perfect destination for travelers seeking a one-of-a-kind experience. With four separate buildings, each with its own unique character and charm, our property offers a variety of options to suit any taste. Whether you prefer a cozy inn-style room or the privacy and independence of a motor-lodge room, you'll find the perfect accommodation at the Colonial House.

Our History

The Colonial House Inn & Motor Lodge has a rich and fascinating history, with the original cape house more than likely in place since Vermont was incorporated as a state in 1791. The motor lodge was constructed in the 1950s and was originally part of the Palmer House in Manchester, Vermont. The motor-lodge rooms were hauled over the mountains in 1969 and delivered in two sections, where they were then merged together to create the cozy, quilt-like property you see today. The Knaack family, the fourth family to take over the property, is eager to continue the legacy of the Colonial House and provide a warm and welcoming home away from home for guests from all walks of life.

Beginning in May of 2024, we will be renovating our guest rooms with new Saatva mattresses, upgraded linens and furnishings, and decor that reflects the eclectic history of the property. We can't wait for you to see the transformation!
