Heart Circle Zen is a community of Zen Buddhist practitioners dedicated to making a positive impact on the world through personal realization and service. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us in our practice and study of Buddhism in the Soto Zen tradition. Our purpose is to awaken the spirit of living in the present moment and to appreciate our life just as it is.
Our Services
Heart Circle Zen offers a variety of services to support individuals on their Zen journey. These services include:
- Meditation: We offer regular meditation sessions, both in-person and online, to help individuals develop a regular meditation practice. Our meditation sessions are guided by experienced teachers who can provide support and guidance.
- Study: We offer classes and workshops on a variety of topics related to Zen Buddhism. These classes are designed to deepen individuals' understanding of Zen teachings and practices.
- Services: We offer regular services, both in-person and online, that include chanting and meditation. These services provide an opportunity for individuals to come together as a community and practice in a group setting.
- Koan Practice: We offer koan practice for those who are interested in deepening their Zen practice. Koans are traditional Zen riddles or puzzles that are used to challenge individuals' understanding of reality.
- Retreats and Workshops: We offer regular retreats and workshops that provide an opportunity for individuals to deepen their practice in a supportive and focused environment.

Heart Circle Zen is committed to serving our communities and the world. We believe that through our practice, we can make a positive difference in the lives of those around us. We offer regular opportunities for individuals to engage in service projects, both locally and globally.
Joining Us
We invite individuals who are interested in Zen Buddhism to join us in our practice and study. If you are new to Zen, even if you have done other forms of meditation, we suggest taking our Introduction to Zen Meditation. We invite you to contact us prior to joining one of our programs for the first time, so that one of our senior students may guide you.
Our Teachers
Heart Circle Zen is fortunate to have a dedicated group of teachers who are committed to sharing the teachings of Zen Buddhism. Our teachers include:
- Joan Hogetsu Hoeberichts, Roshi: Joan is a Zen master and the founder of Heart Circle Zen. She has been practicing Zen for over 40 years and has taught extensively in the United States and Europe.
- Mark Eko Morris, Sensei: Mark is a senior teacher at Heart Circle Zen. He has been practicing Zen for over 20 years and has taught extensively in the United States and Canada.
- Deb Dharma Rain Baretz, Dharma Holder: Deb is a senior student and teacher at Heart Circle Zen. She has been practicing Zen for over 10 years and has taught extensively in the United States.
- Kojin Timothy Wever, Dharma Holder: Kojin is a senior student and teacher at Heart Circle Zen. He has been practicing Zen for over 10 years and has taught extensively in the United States and Europe.
