Since 1973, the United Methodist Nursery School of Lake Grove has been a cornerstone of early childhood education in our community. With a steadfast commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a love of learning, we have provided a happy, healthy, and wholesome environment for generations of children. Our mission is to establish a strong foundation for children's growth, guiding them, inspiring them, and teaching them as we serve their families.
Our Programs
We offer a variety of programs tailored to different ages and developmental stages. Our two-year-old program encourages exploration and discovery through play-based learning. Three-year-olds participate in engaging activities that promote social skills, language development, and motor coordination. Our Pre-Kindergarten program builds upon these foundational skills, introducing more structured learning experiences while still emphasizing creativity and fun.
Our Values and Goals
At the heart of our curriculum are core values that guide every interaction and activity. These values include:
- Social Skills: We aim to instill in our students the importance of kindness, empathy, sharing, and caring, fostering a sense of community and respect among peers.
- Self-Confidence: Every child deserves to feel valued and capable. We encourage a positive self-image and help children develop the confidence to explore, learn, and grow.
- Social Interaction: Our classrooms are bustling with opportunities for children to interact with their peers and adults in positive, meaningful ways. We emphasize good manners, communication skills, and collaborative play.
- Communication Skills: We nurture a love of language by providing opportunities for children to expand their vocabulary, develop expressive language skills, and practice active listening.
- Motor Skills: Through movement play, arts and crafts, and other hands-on activities, we promote the development of both gross and fine motor skills, preparing children for future academic and physical challenges.
- Safety and Hygiene: The safety and well-being of our students are paramount. We teach children about personal safety, hygiene practices, and how to respond appropriately in various situations.
- Religion: We recognize the importance of spiritual development and expose children to concepts of love, compassion, and respect for God's creations through age-appropriate activities and celebrations.
Our Approach to Education
We believe that these are crucial years in a child's life and strive to create an environment that supports their holistic development. Our program is built on the following principles:
- Opportunity: We encourage curiosity, exploration, and discovery, providing children with the space and freedom to learn at their own pace.
- Encouragement: We nurture creativity by providing diverse art materials, storytelling opportunities, and dramatic play experiences. Children are celebrated for their unique ideas and expressions.
- Confidence: We help children develop a healthy self-image and a sense of independence, empowering them to take risks, try new things, and believe in their abilities.
- Participation: We promote a sense of community and belonging by encouraging children to share, cooperate, and build relationships with others.
